Aperio Adds Scanner Patent to Growing Portfolio

Company Receives Additional Patent on Use of Line Scanning in Virtual Microscopy

Vista, CA – July 25, 2005 – Aperio Technologies announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark office has issued the company Patent No. 6,917,696, entitled "Fully Automatic Rapid Microscope Slide Scanner."

Aperio is the leading provider of scanners and related software in the field of digital microscope slide imaging (virtual microscopy). Aperio's ScanScope® scanners are based on a patented line scanning method that has enabled the Company to leap-frog the competition in performance and price. ScanScope scanners create a digital image of an entire microscope slide at giga-pixel resolution in minutes. This digital slide features inherently superior image quality and is generated in a fraction of the time and at half the cost of competitive offerings.

Virtual microscopy is the practice of converting entire glass microscope slides to high resolution digital slides-entire-slide images that can be viewed remotely, analyzed quantitatively, and annotated, shared and managed, all without a traditional microscope.
